Petitions and Campaign Kick Off!–Matt Ryan-Binghamton Mayor

Greetings Friends of Matt Ryan, another couple quick reminders. First of all, we’re looking for more volunteers to carry petitions for the Mayor to get on the ballot this fall. We’ve got people out knocking on doors already, but we need plenty more as we have primary opponents also out getting signatures. We need to get more people out knocking on doors on the Mayor’s behalf! If you can help with petitions, any time at all, please give me a call at 607-427-2225 or shoot me an email.

Additionally, we’re still searching for a few more volunteers to work at Matt’s Campaign Kick Off on Thursday June 25th at Ross Park. The event will take place from 5:00 to 7:30pm. If you can help, give me a call on my cell phone, or email me back.

Thanks again for your time!

NY Times (Danny Hakim): Uncovering the Perks of Albany’s Fallen G.O.P.

NY Times (Danny Hakim): Uncovering the Perks of Albany’s Fallen G.O.P.

Democrats took control of the State Senate last month after more than four decades of Republican rule, then set out to determine how the Senate’s own budget of nearly $100 million and its attendant perks were being distributed. They are still trying to figure it out. They recently realized there are some 75 employees working at the Senate’s own printing plant, a plain brick building on the outskirts of Albany. On Long Island, they found a small television studio, which had been set up – all with public money, with two press aides on hand to help operate it – for the exclusive use of Republican senators to record cable TV shows. Democrats also came across what they are calling the “Brunomobile,” a $50,000 specially outfitted GMC van, with six leather captain’s chairs (some swiveling), a navigation system, rearview camera and meeting table. Joseph L. Bruno, the former Senate majority leader who was recently indicted on corruption charges, traveled in the van after his use of state helicopters sparked a feud with the Spitzer administration.

NYTIMES: Gov’s Judith Smith Behind Attack on Caroline Kennedy

NY Times (Clark Hoyt): Reporting in Real Time

LAST Wednesday, The Times lifted the curtain on the origins of a nasty political attack against Caroline Kennedy, who had sought appointment to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat and then withdrew for unexplained “personal reasons.” The newspaper said that Gov. David Paterson’s administration had “released confidential information about Ms. Kennedy and misled reporters about its significance as part of an orchestrated effort to discredit her after she withdrew.” The Times’s Danny Hakim and Nicholas Confessore reported that on the day after Kennedy’s decision, the governor’s top communications strategist, Judith Smith, directed at least two people to call reporters and tell them that Paterson was dismayed by Kennedy’s public auditioning for the Senate, that he never intended to appoint her and that she pulled out because of tax and nanny issue
